MUMBAI – India received 5.8 millimetres of rain Thursday, 130% above the normal weighted average of 2.5 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. Rainfall was above normal in three of the four homogeneous regions of the country and below normal in one.
In central India, precipitation was a whopping 609% at 6.4 millimetres, data from the department showed. In the southern peninsula, rainfall was 210% above normal at 9.3 millimetres. In northwest India, it was 30% above normal at 1.7 millimetres. East and northeast India received 7.9 millimetres of rainfall, 1% below the normal of 8.0 millimetres.
Of the 36 sub-divisions, rainfall was "large excess" in 20 Thursday, "excess" in two, and "normal" in four, the data showed. Five sub-divisions saw deficient rainfall and five others received "large deficient" showers. Since Mar. 1, the country has received 167.4 millimetres of rainfall, 33% above the normal weighted average of 125.8 millimetres for the period, the data showed. End
