Co-operative banks penalised most by RBI at INR 156 mln in FY25

NEW DELHI – The Reserve Bank of India imposed a total of 353 penalties worth INR 547.8 million on regulated entities in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar) for non-compliance with certain norms of the central bank, out of which co-operative banks were fined the most.   

 

Co-operative banks received 264 penalties worth INR 156.3 million from the central bank in FY25, followed by non-banking financial companies and asset reconstruction companies, which saw 37 penalties worth INR 72.9 million.   

 

Private-sector banks got 15 penalties from the RBI, amounting to INR 148 million, while public-sector banks were met with eight penalties worth INR 111.1 million. The RBI fined foreign banks INR 35.2 million through six penalties in FY25.  End
