Global April alumina production down 2% on month, says aluminium institute

MUMBAI – Global alumina production fell over 2% on month to 12.41 million tonnes in April, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. However, alumina output was up around 4% from 11.96 million tonnes in the corresponding period last year.
The average daily global alumina production rose to 413,600 tonnes in April from the revised 410,400 tonnes in March, the data showed. Alumina production in China was 7.38 million tonnes in April, down over 3% on month. The country's output, which accounted for nearly 60% of global alumina production, was up over 5% from a year ago, the data showed.
In the Oceania region, alumina output fell marginally to 1.44 million tonnes in April from 1.45 million tonnes in March. In Africa and Asia, excluding China, alumina production rose to 1.20 million tonnes last month from 1.15 million tonnes in March. In Europe, production fell by 51,000 tonnes to 592,000 tonnes in April and output in South America fell 1% on month to 992,000 tonnes, the data showed.
According to the data, global production of primary aluminium declined over 3% to 6 million tonnes in April. At 2048 IST, the most-active June aluminium contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was down 0.3% at INR 237.95 per kg. On the London Metal Exchange, the three-month aluminium contract was down 0.7% at $2,468 per tonne. End
