India gets whopping 182% above average rainfall in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 43.1 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 182% above the normal of 15.3 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, the rainfall was above average in three and below normal in one, data showed.

 

Central India saw a sharp rise in rainfall, recording 911% above average rains at 50.6 millimetres. Rainfall in south peninsula also shot up a whopping 340% to 74.8 millimetres, while northwest India saw a 73% above-normal precipitation at 13.7 millimetres. However, rainfall in east and northeast India was 7% below the long-period average at 45.2 millimetres.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was 'large excess' in 26 subdivisions and 'excess' in none. Seven subdivisions recorded 'normal' rainfall while two saw 'deficient' rainfall during the week. Rainfall was 'large deficient' in one subdivision.

 

Since Mar. 1, India has received 161.5 millimetres of rainfall, 31% above the normal 123.3 millimetres for the period.  End
