--Govt imposes wheat stock limit of 3,000 tn for wholesalers 

--Govt imposes wheat stock limit of 10 tn per outlet for retailers 

 

MUMBAI – The Centre Wednesday re-imposed stock limits for the quantity of wheat that trade entities can stock till Mar. 31, 2026, according to a consumer affairs ministry release. Earlier, there were stock limit for the trade entities till Mar. 31, 2025.

 

As per the release, a wheat trader or wholesaler cannot stock more than 3,000 tonnes and retailers can stock only 10 tonnes in each of their outlets. For big chain retailers, the stock limit is 10 tonnes for each retail outlet and in depots, stock of 10 tonnes multiplied by the total number of outlets, the release said.

 

If the stocks held by wheat traders, wholsalers, or retailers are above the prescribed limits, they will have to bring it to the prescribed stock limits within 15 days of the issue of the notification. They have to declare the stocks position on the portal of Department of Food and Public Distribution.  End
