Cabinet OKs construction of 108 km highway in Andhra Pradesh at INR 36.5 bln

NEW DELHI – The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the construction of a 108-kilometre four-lane highway from Badvel in YSR Kadapa district to Nellore in Andhra Pradesh at an estimated cost of INR 36.53 billion. The highway will be built on a design-build-finance-operate-transfer mode, an official release said.
The Badvel-Nellore corridor will provide connectivity to Kopparthy Node on the Vishakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor, Orvakal Node on Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor and Krishnapatnam Node on Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor, the release said.
The project will generate about 2 million mandays of direct employment and 2.3 million mandays of indirect employment, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said. The project will also induce additional employment opportunities due to an increase in economic activity in the vicinity of the proposed corridor, the minister said. End
