PM Modi lays foundation stone, inaugurates INR-534-bln projects in Bhuj

NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday laid foundation stone and inaugurated multiple development projects worth INR 534 billion in Bhuj, Gujarat. Prime Minister Modi was on a two-day visit to the state. He held roadshows in Vadodara and Ahmedabad, and addressed rallies in Dahod and Bhuj after inaugurating multiple projects. He will also visit Gandhinagar and launch Gujarat's urban development plan and inaugurate several other projects.
Addressing a gathering at Bhuj, Modi said that Kutch was emerging as the world's largest hub for green energy and stressed on the transformative potential of green hydrogen, describing it as the fuel of the future. He remarked that cars, buses, and streetlights will soon be powered by green hydrogen, revolutionizing India's energy landscape.
The prime minister also noted that Kandla was one of the three designated green hydrogen hubs in the country. He announced the foundation stone-laying for a new green hydrogen plant in Kutch, underscoring that the technology used in this facility is entirely "Made in India."
Highlighting the government's push for modernisation and expansion of ports, Modi said for the first time, major ports have collectively handled a record 150 million tonnes of cargo in a year, with Kandla Port playing a crucial role. He noted that nearly one-third of India's maritime trade was managed by Kutch's ports.
Modi remarked that May 26 holds a special significance as it marks the day he first took the oath as the prime minister in 2014, adding that "today India has become the fourth largest economy in the world. It was 11th largest economy in 2014."
Highlighting the success of Operation Sindoor, the prime minister stated that the mission underscores India's firm stance against terrorism. He asserted that any attempt to harm Indian citizens will be met with a resolute response in the same language and emphasised that those who dare to challenge India will face consequences.
India launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of May 7 in retaliation to the Apr. 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack, and destroyed terrorist camps at nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Terrorists killed 26 people, mainly tourists, in South Kashmir's Pahalgam on Apr. 22.
Earlier in the day, Modi held a roadshow in Vadodara followed by a rally in Dahod where he inaugurated and laid foundation stone of projects worth INR 240 billion. The prime minister also inaugurated a locomotive manufacturing plant and flagged off an electric locomotive in Dahod. End
