Govt removes port restrictions on export of certain leather products

NEW DELHI – The government Monday removed port restrictions and testing requirements for exports of certain leather products. The government has removed the port restrictions on export of finished leather, wet blue leather, crust leather and EI tanned leather, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade said in a notification.
Along with the port restrictions on exports, the government has also removed the testing and certification requirements by the Central Leather Research Institute for export of these products, the notification said.
The Budget for 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), presented on Feb. 1, had exempted crust leather from 20% export duty, and wet blue leather from customs duty to facilitate imports for domestic value addition and employment. End
