Supreme Court collegium recommends 3 judges for apex court

NEW DELHI – The collegium of the Supreme Court Monday recommended three judges for elevation to the court. When the government accepts the recommendation, the top court will be at its full sanctioned strength of 34 judges.

 

The three judges recommended for elevation to the Supreme Court are N.V. Anjaria, chief justice of the Karnataka High Court, Vijay Bishnoi, chief justice of the Gauhati High Court, and A.S. Chandurkar, a judge of the Bombay High Court.

 

Justice Anjaria started his practice as a lawyer in the Gujarat High Court in August 1988 by joining the chamber of senior advocate S.N. Shelat. He conducted matters involving constitutional issues and all categories of civil cases, labour, and service. He was elevated as additional judge of the high court in November 2011 and confirmed as a permanent judge in 2013. Justice Anjaria took oath as chief justice of the Karnataka High Court last year.

 

Justice Bishnoi enrolled as an advocate in 1989 and practised at the Rajasthan High Court and the Central Administrative Tribunal at Jodhpur. He dealt with matters in a wide range of areas such as civil, criminal, constitutional, service, and elections. He was appointed as an additional judge of the Rajasthan High Court in 2013. He took oath as a permanent judge of the court in 2015. He was appointed chief justice of the Gauhati High Court in 2024.

 

Justice Chandurkar joined the Bar in 1988 and started practice in the chambers of senior advocate N. Naik. He handled different subjects. He has authored two books on The Maharashtra Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats & Industrial Townships Act, 1965 and The Maharashtra Rent Control Act, 1999. He was elevated as an additional judge of the Bombay High Court in 2013.  End
