MUMBAI – Urad prices are expected to gain support in near term due to factors such as rising demand in monsoon and low availability of stocks with millers and traders, the India Pulses and Grains Association said in its weekly market outlook report on Monday.
Pre-monsoon rains have been higher than normal and sowing could begin early next month instead of mid-June, leading to an earlier harvest, the report said. The monsoon is likely to move into Maharashtra and other southern and northeastern states in the next two or three days, the report said.
However, good arrivals in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh and other states suggest that millers are ready to buy but avoiding stocking up, the report said. Also, import arrivals in coming days may not lead to rise in prices further. "Incoming vessels next week may limit any sharp price rise in the short-term," the report said.
Burma urad, Andhra Pradesh polished urad, and new summer crop urad from Madhya Pradesh were traded at weak prices in the week ended Saturday due to low buying from millers and slow demand during summer. Lower Myanmar cost and freight prices and more summer crop arrivals in main markets made traders cautious, the report said.
In the week ended Saturday, prices of urad in Chandausi, Uttar Pradesh, fell by INR 100 from last week to INR 7,225-INR 7,250 per 100 kg, according to the association. Similarly, prices of imported urad in the port city of Chennai fell by INR 75 from the previous week to INR 6,950 per 100 kg. End
