NEW DELHI – Japan's Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya Thursday reiterated support to India's fight against terrorism and appreciated the restraint shown by the government in the aftermath of the Apr. 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 26 people were killed, India's embassy in Tokyo said in a statement. He also called for punishing the perpetrators of terrorism.
An all-party delegation led by Janata Dal (United) leader Sanjay Jha held a meeting with Iwaya and conveyed India's stance on cross-border terrorism. The delegation also conveyed that India had responded to the terrorist attack in a precise, targeted, and non-escalatory manner through "Operation Sindoor".
The delegation sought Japan's support and called for giving effect to the UN Security Council press statement of Apr. 25, which underlined the need to hold the perpetrators, organisers, financiers, and sponsors of the act accountable and bring them to justice.
The delegation also held meetings with former prime minister Yoshihide Suga and Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on National Security Takashi Endo. It conveyed India's resolute commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms.
The delegation led by Jha will also visit South Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia.
India constituted seven all-party delegations to engage key partner countries, including members of the UN Security Council, as part of the country's diplomatic outreach on Operation Sindoor. The delegations are tasked with projecting India's resolute approach to combating terrorism in all forms and manifestations, and to expose Pakistan's involvement in nurturing terrorists.
A second delegation, led by Shiv Sena Member of Parliament Shrikant Shinde, arrived in Abu Dhabi Thursday and briefed the United Arab Emirates leadership and media on Operation Sindoor and India's firm stance against cross-border terrorism. A third delegation, led by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, reached Russia. Kanimozhi's delegation will also visit Slovenia, Greece, Latvia, and Spain.
The delegations comprise members of Parliament from different parties, prominent political personalities, and distinguished diplomats.
The remaining delegations are led by Shashi Tharoor of the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party's Ravi Shankar Prasad and Baijayant Panda, and Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Supriya Sule.
The delegation led by Tharoor is scheduled to travel to the US, Brazil, Colombia, Guyana, and Panama. It will leave Sunday. The delegation led by Prasad is scheduled to visit the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Denmark, among others. The delegation led by Panda will visit Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Algeria. The Shinde-led delegation is scheduled to also visit Liberia, Congo, and Sierra Leone. Sule's delegation will visit Eqypt, Qatar, Ethiopia, and South Africa.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in retaliation to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The country's armed forces struck terrorist camps at nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The government has claimed that at least 100 terrorists were killed in the strikes. End
