NEW DELHI – Celebi Nas Airport Services India Pvt. Ltd. on Thursday moved the Bombay High Court against the revocation of its security clearance for ground handling operations by the government and the consequent cancellation of its contracts by Mumbai International Airport Ltd.
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security had on May 15 revoked the security clearance of the company, citing national security reasons. It was alleged that the companies had links to Turkey, which had publicly backed Pakistan and criticised India's airstrikes on terror camps across the border, triggering a diplomatic fallout.
Celebi Nas Airport Services also filed two arbitration applications in the Bombay High Court against Mumbai International Airport. The petitioner has sought the annulment of Mumbai International Airport’s unilateral terminations of the bridge-mounted equipment service agreement and the agreement on ground handling services. Celebi Nas Airport Services has also sought urgent interim measures to restrain Mumbai International Airport from concluding the tenders for selecting a new ground handling agency for these services.
Celebi Airport Services India Pvt. Ltd. and Celebi Delhi Cargo Terminal Management India Pvt. Ltd. have also moved the Delhi High Court against the government's move to revoke security clearance to the companies. Celebi Nas Airport Services, Celebi Airport Services India and Celebi Delhi Cargo Terminal Management are subsidiary companies of Turkish-based Celebi Hava Servisi.
Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 to strike terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for last month's Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 26 people were killed. Following the Indian strikes, Pakistan resorted to artillery shelling and drone attacks on military and civilian areas at multiple places in the country. India, in response, struck Pakistani airbases and damaged key military infrastructure. On May 10, the two sides agreed to a ceasefire. End
