MUMBAI - The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall over parts of Konkan and Goa on Friday and Saturday and over coastal Karnataka and central Maharashtra on Saturday. A red alert indicates rainfall over 204.4 millimetres in 24 hours.
Heavy-to-very heavy rainfall is also predicted over parts of Kerala and Karnataka till Wednesday, the department said. The weather bureau expects isolated heavy rainfall over parts of south India till Tuesday.
It has forecast heavy-to-very heavy rainfall over parts of Konkan, Goa, and central Maharashtra till Wednesday and over Marathwada on Thursday. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Gujarat from Sunday to Wednesday, the bureau said.
In northeast India, the weather agency sees heavy rainfall over parts of Assam and Meghalaya till Tuesday, over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till Sunday, and over Arunachal Pradesh from Friday to Monday.
Isolated heavy rains are likely over parts of east and central India till Wednesday, the weather department said. Heavy rainfall is also expected over pockets of Uttarakhand on Friday and Saturday. The department also expects hailstorms over parts of Himachal Pradesh on Friday and Saturday.
Severe heatwave conditions are likely to continue over parts of west Rajasthan till Saturday, the weather agency said. Heatwave conditions are also seen over pockets of Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and north Madhya Pradesh till Friday, east Rajasthan till Saturday, and in west Rajasthan on Sunday and Monday. Warm night conditions are likely in parts of southern Haryana, Punjab till Friday and in west Rajasthan till Saturday. End
