AHMEDABAD/MUMBAI – InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. expects its capacity to grow in "early double digits" in 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) and in mid-teens in Apr-Jun compared to a year ago, the company's management said at a post-earnings analysts call on Wednesday.
InterGlobe Aviation's total fleet was 434 aircraft as on Mar. 31, compared to 437 as on Dec. 31. The company operated at a peak of 2,304 daily flights during the quarter, including non-scheduled flights. In FY25, the company added 67 aircraft on a net basis, servicing 118.6 million passengers, up 11% on year.
With internationalisation as a key strategic focus area for the airline, it added seven new destinations across Asia during the last financial year. The company said that it met its target of adding 40 international destinations by the end of FY25. The company added one more international destination last week in Fujairah in United Arab Emirates.
"When it comes to international travel, India remains highly underserved. The further you go, the lower the market share of Indian operators becomes. And this presents us with a huge opportunity to expand into further markets," InterGlobe Aviation's Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers said. The company is planning to launch Amsterdam and Manchester connections from Mumbai using wide-bodied aircraft from July.
InterGlobe Aviation's net profit in Jan-Mar rose 62% on year to INR 30.73 billion, while revenue increased 24% on year to INR 221.52 billion. In FY25, the profit fell 11% to INR 72.53 billion, but the revenue increased 17% to INR 808.03 billion.
The airline management said the year 2025 was "extremely exciting" for Indian aviation with India hosting the International Air Transport Association annual general meeting after a gap of 42 years. Indigo will host the participants of the annual general meeting to be held in Delhi in June first week. Other than this, second airports will be coming up at Delhi and Mumbai. Indigo will carry out test flights at both of these locations. InterGlobe Aviation expects both airports to commence operations this year.
While the company is optimistic about 2025, it did see a rise in the number of cancellations in the wake of the terrorist attack on tourists at Pahalgam in Kashmir on Apr. 22 and the subsequent military conflict between India and Pakistan. The airline had suspended two of the 131 destinations it operates following the closure of its airspace by Pakistan. However, this did not have much material impact on its revenues. The management said the trend of cancellations appears to have sort of plateaued and was visibly reversing, with more Indians taking to the skies.
On Wednesday, shares of the company closed 0.4% higher at INR 5,461.50 on the National Stock Exchange. The company announced its earnings after market hours. End
