India gets whopping 106% above normal rain in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 28.9 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 106% above the normal 14 millimetres for the week, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, the rainfall was more than the long-period average in three and below the average in one, data showed.

 

The rainfall was 232% above the long-period average in central India at 14.3 millimetres during the week and it was 56% above the long-period average in east and northeast India at 67.9 millimetres. Rainfall in south peninsular India was a whopping 274% above the average at 62.4 millimetres. However, in northwest India, it was 59% below the long-period average at 3.2 millimetres.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was 'large deficient' in five and 'deficient' in two during the week. Rainfall was 'large excess' in 21 subdivisions and 'excess' in four. And four subdivisions received normal rains during the week.

 

Since Mar. 1, India has received 118.9 millimetres of rainfall, 10% above the normal 108 millimetres for the period.  End
