MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall over parts of Karnataka Tuesday and Wednesday, and over parts of Konkan Wednesday. A red alert indicates rainfall over 204.4 millimetres in 24 hours. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over parts of south India till Sunday, the department said.

 

The weather department has also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over south central Maharashtra, Konkan, Goa, and Marathwada till Sunday.

 

In northeast India, the weather bureau sees a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds reaching 30-50 km per hour in the next seven days. Very heavy rainfall is also likely over parts of Assam and Meghalaya till Tuesday, and heavy rainfall is seen over parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and Mizoram till Thursday, the bureau said.

 

Very heavy rainfall is expected over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim Tuesday, while isolated heavy rainfall is likely over the same regions and Bihar till Thursday, and over Jharkhand till Tuesday, the bureau said.

 

The weather agency sees heavy rainfall over parts of Uttarakhand from Friday to Sunday. Hailstorms are also likely over parts of Himachal Pradesh Monday and over Uttarakhand till Tuesday, the agency said.

 

Heatwave conditions are likely to continue in west Rajasthan till Saturday, in east Rajasthan till Thursday, and in Haryana till Wednesday. Hot and humid weather is also predicted in Odisha till Tuesday, the weather department said.  End
