Security forces kill 3 terrorists in J&K in second encounter in 48 hours

NEW DELHI — The security forces Thursday killed three terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Nader, the Indian Army said, adding the identity of the terrorists was being ascertained. This was the second encounter in the region in the 48 hours.

 

"Three hardcore terrorists have been eliminated in the ongoing Operation at Nader, Awantipora. Identity of terrorists is being ascertained", the Chinar Corps shared on X, formerly Twitter. Earlier in the day, Chinar Corps had said it launched a cordon and search operation at Nader, in Tral area of Awantipora, based on a specific intelligence input. 

 

 

"Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops and on being challenged, terrorists opened heavy fire and fierce gunfight ensued," Chinar Corps said. Jammu and Kashmir Police Inspector General Vidhi Kumar Birdi told media that security forces got specific information regarding the movement of terrorists in Nader and accordingly a cordon was laid. 

 

"So far, we have observed three bodies of terrorists. The operation is still ongoing, and identities and affiliations will only be revealed after it concludes. This encounter is part of an all-out effort to dismantle the terror ecosystem (in Jammu and Kashmir)," Birdi said. The security forces have intensified operations against terrorists in the aftermath of Pahalgam attack in which 26 people, mainly tourists, were killed. 

 

On Tuesday, the security forces killed three terrorists in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. According to army, a search and destroy operation was launched in Shoekal Keller area of Shopian based on a specific intelligence of a unit of Rashtriya Rifles. During the operation, terrorists opened heavy fire and fierce firefight ensued, which resulted in elimination of three hardcore terrorists, the army said.  End
