NEW DELHI – Calling Pakistan a rogue nation, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Thursday urged the International Atomic Energy Agency to take Pakistan's nuclear weapons under its supervision. "The world has seen how irresponsibly Pakistan issued repeated nuclear threats to India," Singh said. "From the soil of Srinagar, I ask, are nuclear weapons safe in the hands of such a rogue nation."

The defence minister was on a visit to Jammu and Kashmir to take stock of the overall security situation in the aftermath of the Operation Sindoor. The military officers will brief Singh on overall security preparedness at the forward areas.

India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in retaliation for the Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 26 people, mainly tourists, were killed. Indian armed forces carried out precision strikes at the terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in the early hours of May 7 and claimed to have killed over 100 terrorists.

Following these strikes, Pakistan attempted to target military installations in India. In response, Indian armed forces inflicted heavy losses to the Pakistan military. Indian forces attacked 11 military installations in Pakistan and also destroyed Pakistan's air defence system. The Indian government said that nearly 20% of Pakistan air force's infrastructure was destroyed.

The hostilities between both the countries ended on Saturday following the talks between Director Generals of Military Operations from both sides to stop firing.  End
