India gets 20% above normal rainfall in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 15.6 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 20% above the normal of 13.0 millimetres for the week, according to data by the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, the rainfall was more than the long-period average in two and below the average in two, the data showed.

 

The rainfall was 180% above the long-period average in central India at 11.2 millimetres during the week and it was 20% above the long-period average in northwest India at 10.2 millimetres. Rainfall in south peninsular India was 5% below the average at 15.4 millimetres. In east and northeast India, it was 4% below the long-period average at 35.4 millimetres.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was 'large deficient' in one and 'deficient' in 11 during the week. Rainfall was 'large excess' in 13 subdivisions and 'excess' in six. Five subdivisions received normal rains during the week.

 

Since Mar. 1, India has received 90.5 millimetres of rainfall, 4% below the normal of 94.0 millimetres for the period.  End
