MUMBAI – Edelweiss Financial Services Ltd.'s consolidated net profit fell 38% year-on-year in the March quarter due to a sharp decline in its capital business. The weak earnings were despite the lender's consolidated expenses falling sharply from a year ago.
Edelweiss Financial's consolidated net profit for the March quarter fell to INR 1.05 billion from INR 1.69 billion a year ago. Sequentially, the lender's net profit fell around 15%. Total revenue for the December quarter fell 24% on year to INR 22.23 billion, driven by a 44% decline in its capital business.
Revenue of the capital business of the non-bank lender was INR 6.68 billion in the reporting quarter, down from INR 11.82 billion a year ago. In the December quarter, revenue from the segment was INR 8.83 billion. Premium from the insurance business was among the segments that saw a rise both on year and sequentially. The premium from insurance business rose 12.8% on year and 76.7% on quarter to INR 10.24 billion.
The decline in the lender's net profit was limited by a 23.6% fall in its expenses in the March quarter to INR 21.47 billion. However, sequentially, total expenses rose 18.3%.
In 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), the consolidated net profit of the company declined 5.2% on year to INR 3.99 billion. The revenue from operations declined 2.5% to INR 90.81 billion. The net profit for Edelweiss Alternative Asset Advisors grew 31% to INR 2.30 billion in FY25, while net profit of Edelweiss Mutual Fund rose 40% to INR 530 million. Edelweiss Asset Reconstruction Company's bottom line rose 8% to INR 3.85 billion in FY25.
In the reporting quarter, Edelweiss Mutual Fund's assets under management rose 12% on year to INR 1.42 trillion. The company's equity assets under management rose 43% on year to INR 625 billion. The company will pay a dividend of INR 1.5 per share.
On Wednesday, shares of Edelweiss Financial Services ended 1.3% higher at INR 87.55 on the National Stock Exchange. The company announced its results during market hours. End
