NEW DELHI – Slamming Pakistan for providing safe haven to terrorists, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday asserted that terror and dialogue, terror and trade cannot go hand in hand. He hailed the armed forces for successfully striking terrorist camps at nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir in the early hours of Wednesday.
"Terror and talks cannot coexist. Terror and trade cannot go hand in hand. Water and blood can never flow together," Modi said in his address to the nation in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor. The Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor in retaliation to the Pahalgam terrorist attack last month and struck at five terrorist camps in Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir and four camps in Pakistan.
The prime minister said the training camps at Bahawalpur and Muridke in Pakistan were the universities of global terrorism. All big terrorist attacks in the world, including the 9/11 attack in the US and the big terrorist attacks in India, were connected to these terrorist sites, Modi said.
Modi termed Operation Sindoor as India's new policy against terrorism. Operation Sindoor is an unbroken pledge of justice, Modi said, adding that the whole world saw the pledge turning into results in the early hours of Wednesday. "Operation Sindoor is not just a name. It is a reflection of the feelings of millions of people in the country," he said.
Modi said over 100 terrorists were killed in the Indian strikes. When Indian missiles and drones attacked those sites in Pakistan, it was not just the buildings of the terrorist organisations but their courage was also destroyed, he said. He asserted that terrorist attacks on India will face befitting reply. The response will be on our terms, he added.
Modi also said that India has just paused attacks on terrorist camps and military sites in Pakistan. He said over the next few days India will evaluate Pakistan's resolve to the "understanding" both sides had arrived at on Saturday to stop firing and take military actions.
The prime minister termed the Pahalgam terrorist attack, which shook the entire world, as a big example of state sponsored terrorism. "The world has seen the dirty truth of Pakistan when the high-ranked officers of the Army bid the slain terrorists adieu. There can't be a bigger proof of state-sponsored terrorism," Modi said.
Pakistan sided with terrorists when India neutralised terrorist camps and launched drone and missile attacks on civilians, schools, temples, gurudwaras and at military installations, Modi said, adding that all attempts by Pakistan had failed. The world saw how our air defence system neutralised Pakistani drones and missiles, he said.
Modi said the Indian armed forces attacked Pakistan's airbases and neutralised its defence infrastructure in the first three days of Operation Sindoor as they were given full freedom to carry out strikes.
After sustaining heavy losses, Pakistan got rattled and was pleading to world leaders to negotiate an end to military actions, Modi said, adding that Pakistan's director general of military operations had called his Indian counterpart on Saturday and both sides had arrived at an understanding to stop firing. The prime minister said that India agreed to stop military actions after Pakistan showed restraint. Modi said India will only hold talks with Pakistan on Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir and terrorism.
Modi asserted that Pakistan's military and government have continuously nurtured terrorism, warning that such actions will eventually lead to Pakistan's own downfall. He said that if Pakistan seeks survival, it must dismantle its terror infrastructure.
Bowing to the unity and courage of the Indian people, Modi said the road to peace is through power and that India will exercise it whenever needed to achieve the aim of Viksit Bharat. End
