NEW DELHI - All Indian military bases and equipment are fully operational, and ready for future operations, Air Marshal A.K. Bharti asserted on Monday. Briefing the media on Operation Sindoor, he said multiple layers of integrated air defence grid were put in place to thwart numerous waves of drones and unmanned combat aerial vehicles deployed by Pakistan to target military installations and civilian areas in India.
"All our military bases, all our systems continue to remain fully operational and ready to undertake any future missions should the need so arise," Air Marshal Bharti said.
India had on Wednesday launched Operation Sindoor in retaliation for the Pahalgam terrorist attack last month in which 25 tourists and a local Kashmiri were killed.
The air marshal showed the debris of a likely PL - 15 air-to-air missile of Chinese origin, used by Pakistan. He also showed the debris of Turkish-origin YIHA and Songar drones.
He said indigenously developed soft and hard kill counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems and the well-trained Indian air defence thwarted the enemy's attempts on India. He also highlighted the stellar performance of the indigenous Akash air defence system.
Director General of Military Operations Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai said the character of terrorism and terrorists has been changing since the last few years. Innocent civilians were being attacked, he said. Ghai also asserted that there is absolute synergy between Navy, Army and Air Force.
Hailing the multiple layers of air defence grid, Ghai said whenever Pakistan armed forces attempted to attack Indian airfields and military installations, they failed due to this grid. Multiple layers of air defence grid were put along the border to thwart Pakistan's attack, he said, adding that Indian airfields are operational.
Vice Admiral A.N. Pramod, who was also present at the briefing, said the Indian Navy is effectively using multiple sensors and inputs, and maintaining continuous surveillance to degrade or neutralise threats.
Under the Operation Sindoor, the Indian armed forces struck at terrorist camps at nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan responded to the Indian strikes with heavy artillery shelling along the Line of Control and drone and missile intrusion in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat.
After over three days of hostilities in which 35-40 Pakistan army personnel and five Indian soldiers lost lives, both sides arrived on an understanding to stop military actions effective Saturday 1700 IST. However, the Pakistan forces violated the understanding with firing along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir and drone intrusion at multiple locations in India on Saturday night.
