NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday convened a "high-level" meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other officials at his residence in New Delhi, in view of the escalating border tensions, the Prime Minister's Office said. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan, chiefs of armed forces, and other senior officials were part of the meeting.

It is learnt that the chiefs of armed forces apprised the prime minister about Pakistan's high speed missile attack on airbases in Punjab and drone attacks along the International Border and Line of Control from Jammu and Kashmir to Gujarat. The armed forces chiefs also apprised the prime minister about the preparedness of the forces to counter hostilities.

Tensions escalated between India and Pakistan after the Apr. 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 25 tourists and a Kashmir local were killed. In retaliation, India launched Operation Sindoor on Wednesday striking terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir with drones. Ever since the Indian strikes, Pakistan armed forces have constantly intruded Indian airspace and launched drone and missile attacks on civilian and military installations at multiple locations in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. The Pakistan army also resorted to heavy artillery shelling along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir which resulted in deaths of at least 13 civilians including women and children, the government said.

In response, the Indian armed forces carried out precision attacks on identified military targets. India attacked technical infrastructure, command and control centres, radar sites, and weapon storage areas in Pakistan, the government said, adding that while carrying out these responses, India ensured minimum collateral damage.  End
