MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast heatwave in parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Sunday. Heatwave conditions are also seen in Gangetic West Bengal till Wednesday, in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha from Sunday to Wednesday, over east Uttar Pradesh from Wednesday to Friday, and over west Uttar Pradesh on Thursday and Friday, the weather bureau said.
Parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim may find some relief from the heatwave as the weather department has forecast very heavy rainfall over the regions on Monday. Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely over parts of the same regions and over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands till Wednesday, the department said.
A wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40–50 km per hour, gusting up to 60 km per hour, across parts of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh are forecast till Tuesday, the weather bureau said.
Under the influence of multiple weather systems, heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Tuesday and Wednesday. The region is also expected to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30–40 km per hour, gusting up to 50 km per hour, on the same days. Similar conditions are forecast over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and Karnataka till Wednesday, over Kerala and Mahe from Sunday to Tuesday, and over Lakshadweep till Monday.
The weather agency has forecast a wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30–40 km per hour, gusting up to 50 km per hour, across northeast India over the next five days. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till Friday. Very heavy rain is also predicted in Arunachal Pradesh on Monday and over Assam and Meghalaya on Tuesday.
In west India, the department has forecast a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40–50 km per hour, gusting up to 60 km per hour, to continue till Wednesday. Similar weather conditions are likely to prevail over parts of northwest India till Friday.
Hot and humid weather is likely in Assam and Meghalaya on Saturday, in Tripura, Kerala, and Mahe till Sunday, in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal till Tuesday, and in Odisha till Wednesday, the weather bureau said. End
