NEW DELHI - The government Saturday said the Indian armed forces remain in a high state of operational readiness to effectively counter any hostile actions, noting that Pakistan was moving its troops to forward areas. "Pakistan Army has been observed to be moving its troops towards forward areas, indicating an offensive intent to further escalation," Wing Commander Vyomika Singh told the media, in a joint briefing by the defence ministry and external affairs ministry.

India launched Operation Sindoor on Wednesday, striking at terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir in response to Apr. 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 26 civilians were killed.

Pakistan continued its provocative and escalatory actions on Saturday, to which India reacted in a responsible and measured fashion, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said. Pakistan shelling in Rajouri early Saturday resulted in killing of Additional District Development Commissioner Raj Kumar Thapa, adding to the civilian casualties and the damage in Jammu and Kashmir, Misri said.

After 0140 IST on Friday, Pakistani forces launched several high-speed missile attacks at several air bases in Punjab, Wing Commander Singh said. However, damage to equipment and personnel from the attacks by Pakistan on Indian Air Force stations in Udhampur, Pathankot, Adampur and Bhuj was limited, the government said.

"In a deplorable cowardly act, targeting of civilian infrastructure also had taken place where Pakistan attacked the medicare centre and school premises at the air bases of Srinagar, Awantipora and Udhampur. Along the Line of Control also, Pakistan has attempted multiple air intrusions using drones and conducted shelling using heavy-calibre RT guns, targeting civilian infrastructure and killing some civilians," Singh said.

In response, she said, the Indian armed forces carried out precision attacks only on identified military targets. India attacked at technical infrastructure, command and control centres, radar sites and weapon storage areas in Pakistan. "Pakistan military targets at Rafiqui, Murid, Chaklala, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur and Chunian were engaged using air-launched precision weapons from our fighter aircrafts. Radar sites at Pasrur and Sialkot aviation base were also targeted using precision munitions. While carrying out these responses, India ensured minimum collateral damage," Singh said. The Indian Army has also destroyed several terrorist launch pads close to Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Indian armed forces also responded to Pakistan's artillery mortars and small-arms fire in Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri and Akhnoor sectors effectively and proportionately, causing extensive damage to Pakistan army, Singh said. She said the Indian armed forces reiterate their commitment to non-escalation, provided it is reciprocated by the Pakistan military.

Rejecting Pakistan's misinformation campaign, Foreign Secretary Misri said claims of destruction of Indian S-400 system at Adampur and destruction of airfields at Suratgarh and Sirsa are completely false.

"Pakistan has also attempted to execute a continued malicious misinformation campaign with claims of destruction... at BrahMos base at Nagrota, reactive trigger gun positions at Dehrangyari and Chandigarh Forward Ammunition Depot; with heavy damages to other military stations being propagated on social media. India unequivocally rejects these false narratives being spread by Pakistan," Wing Commander Singh said.

Misri termed Pakistan's claims about India firing missiles towards Shri Amritsar Sahib as "ludicrous". "As I said, these lame attempts to divide India are doomed to failure," he added. The foreign secretary also called Pakistan's allegations that Indian missiles had hit Afghanistan frivolous.  End
