MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast very heavy rainfall over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Monday, with isolated heavy showers expected from Sunday to Tuesday. Such a weather system is also expected to trigger wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40–50 km per hour, gusting up to 60 km per hour, across parts of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh till Tuesday.

According to the weather bureau, heavy rain is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Friday. The region is also expected to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30–40 km per hour, gusting up to 50 km per hour, on the same day. Similar conditions are forecast to persist over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and Karnataka till Tuesday.

The weather agency has forecast fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30–40 km per hour, gusting up to 50 km per hour, across northeast India over the next five days. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from Saturday to Thursday. Very heavy rain is also predicted in Arunachal Pradesh on Monday and in Assam and Meghalaya on Tuesday.

In west India, the department has forecast a wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40–50 km per hour, gusting up to 60 km per hour, to continue till Sunday. Similar weather conditions are likely to prevail over parts of northwest India until Tuesday.

A fresh spell of heatwave is predicted in parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Sunday and Monday, and in Gangetic Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand from Saturday to Wednesday. East Uttar Pradesh may also experience heatwave conditions on Wednesday and Thursday, the weather agency said. Hot and humid weather is expected to persist in Gangetic Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Kerala, Mahe, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till Saturday, the weather bureau added.  End
