Indian tea exports rose 13% YoY to INR 66.92 bln in Apr-Feb, says Tea Board

MUMBAI – India exported tea worth INR 66.92 billion in Apr-Feb, nearly 13% higher than INR 59.32 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year, according to provisional data released by the Tea Board India. In volume terms, exports rose 0.8% on year to 230.94 million kilograms in Apr-Feb from 229.08 million kg same period last year.
Exports from northern India rose 21% on year to INR 46.88 billion during Apr-Feb, the data showed. Exports from southern India fell 2.3% on year in Apr-Feb to INR 20.03 billion. In terms of volume, exports from northern India rose 7.5% on year to 145.75 million kg but those from southern India declined 9% on year in Apr-Feb to 85.19 million kg, the data showed.
The average price of tea exported from north India in Apr-Feb was INR 321.71 per kg, up from INR 286.26 per kg a year ago. The average price of tea exported from southern India rose to INR 235.16 per kg last year from INR 219.39 per kg in the previous year, the data showed. The average unit price of tea exported from the country rose to INR 289.78 per kg during Apr-Feb from INR 258.96 per kg in the corresponding period last year, according to the data. End
