NEW DELHI – India and Chile signed the Terms of Reference for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement on Thursday, the commerce ministry said in a release Friday. The two sides are scheduled to hold the first round of negotiations starting May 26.

The free trade agreement aims to build upon the existing preferential trade agreement between the two nations and seeks to encompass a broader range of sectors, including digital services, investment promotion and cooperation, critical minerals, etc, the ministry said. Both nations had signed the preferential trade pact in 2005.

After Peru, Chile is the second Latin American country with which India will start negotiations for a free trade agreement. The total bilateral trade with Chile in Apr-Jan was $362.71 million, which included exports worth $97.08 million, according to the latest data available with the commerce ministry.  End
