MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has predicted very heavy rainfall over Assam and Meghalaya from Sunday to Monday, caused by an upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam in lower tropospheric levels. Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya from Friday till Wednesday, and over Mizoram on Monday, the weather department said in a release Thursday.
Rainfall along with thunderstorm and lightning is likely to continue over northwest and central India for the next four to five days, the weather bureau said. Isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall along with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds reaching 40-50 km per hour is likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan during the weekend. Dust storm is likely over parts of west Rajasthan on Friday and Saturday.
Isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall along with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds reaching 40-50 km per hour and gusting to 60 km per hour is likely over west India till Monday. Thundersquall with wind speeds reaching 50-60 km per hour gusting to 70 km per hour is likely over Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Gujarat on Thursday.
Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to see isolated heavy rainfall on Sunday and Monday, the weather bureau said. Isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall along with thunderstorm, lightning, and strong winds with speeds reaching 30-40 km per hour and gusting to 50 km per hour is likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Pududcherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe during the weekend.
The department has predicted a fresh spell of heatwave over eastern India from Saturday. The heatwave is likely over parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, and Jharkhand for the next five days, the weather department said. Hot and humid weather is likely in Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal till Friday. End
