NEW DELHI - Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting with secretaries from various ministries on Thursday to review preparedness for national security and inter-ministerial coordination in light of recent escalation in tensions between India and Pakistan. Participants at the meeting included Cabinet Secretary T.V. Somanthan, senior officials from PM's office, and secretaries from key ministries including defence, home affairs, and external affairs.
"A range of issues were discussed during the meeting. These included, among others, strengthening of civil defence mechanisms, efforts to counter misinformation and fake news, and ensuring the security of critical infrastructure," PM's office said in a release. "Ministries were also advised to maintain close coordination with state authorities and ground-level institutions."
Tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad have flared up in the last two weeks after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. In response, the Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of Wednesday and struck at nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan also attempted to engage a number of military targets in north and west India using drones and missiles on Wednesday night. End
