NEW DELHI – The government Thursday told the all-party meeting around 100 people were estimated killed in the Indian strikes on terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir in the early hours of Wednesday, a member who attended the meeting said. Briefing the leaders of the political parties on the Operation Sindoor, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the situation was evolving and it would take some time to come out with exact details, the member said.

The government also said that Operation Sindoor was still under way. Following the meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that Defence Minister Singh briefed everyone about the Operation Sindoor and all the leaders gave their suggestions. "We have received a few suggestions as well. This is an ongoing operation so there is no separate official briefing," Rijiju said.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that the opposition extended full support to the government. "They also said that certain confidential information cannot be shared outside. We told them that we all are with the government," Kharge said. Home Minister Amit Shah, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and the floor leaders of the political parties also attended the all-party meeting.

Earlier in the day, a spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs said that 13 civilians were killed in Poonch and 59 were injured in ceasefire violations along the Line of Control by Pakistan.

The Indian armed forces had launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of Wednesday morning, between 0105 IST and 0130 IST, and struck at nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The armed forces neutralised Bahawalpur, Muridke, Sarjal and Mehmoona Joya, Sawai Nala in Muzaffarabad, Syedna Bilal in Muzaffarabad, Gulpur Kotli and Barnala in Bhimber terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the government said.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that the strikes were carried out to deter and pre-empt more cross-border terrorist attacks. He said that the agencies had intelligence of further attacks against India. "Our intelligence monitoring of Pakistan-based terrorist modules indicated that further attacks against India were impending. India exercised its right to respond and pre-empt as well as deter more such cross-border attacks," he said.

The foreign secretary also called the Indian action "non-escalatory measure, proportionate, and responsible."  End
