NEW DELHI – China on Wednesday said Indian military strikes at terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir was "regrettable" and urged both New Delhi and Islamabad to show restraint. China's ministry of foreign affairs expressed concern over the situation and urged both the countries to act in larger interest of peace and stability.
US President Donald Trump expressed hope that the hostilities will end very quickly. "It's a shame. We heard about it just as we were walking in the doors of the Oval (Office). I guess people knew something was going to happen based on a little bit of the past," Trump said.
In retaliation against Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed on Apr. 22, Indian armed forces carried out missile strikes at nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The strikes were carried out under "Operation Sindoor".
India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that the armed forces took action with "precision, alertness and sensitiveness". "The targets we decided were accurately demolished at the right time with precision," he said addressing the 66th Raising Day event of Border Roads Organisation in New Delhi. Singh said that India used its "right to respond" to the attack on its soil.
"Our armed forces also showed sensitivity in ensuring that civilian population is not affected at all. It was limited only to the camps and other infrastructure used for training terrorists, with the aim of breaking their morale. I congratulate the Armed Forces on behalf of the whole country," Singh said.
CONGRESS PAUSES ALL PROGRAMMES
The Congress extended full support to armed forces and announced pausing all party programmes in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor. The party called its working committee meeting to discuss the steps taken by the government.
"We are proud of our armed forces who have carried out Operation Sindoor. We are giving full support for national security. There is no discrimination on this issue, party President Mallikarjun Kharge said. Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal said it was decided during the meeting that all scheduled party programmes, including Samvidhan Bachao Rallies, shall be paused during this critical hour. End
