India gets 35% above normal rainfall in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 15.9 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 35% above the normal of 11.8 millimetres for the week, the India Meteorological Department said. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, the rainfall was more than the long-period average in three and below the average in one, the weather bureau said.

 

The rainfall was 320% above the long-period average in central India at 13 millimetres during the week, while it was 96% above the long-period average in northwest India at 13.5 millimetres. Rainfall in south peninsular India was 36% above the average at 17.7 millimetres, while in east and northeast India, it was 36% below the long-period average at 24.5 millimetres during the week, the weather agency said.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was 'large deficient' in three and 'deficient' in seven during the week. Rainfall was 'large excess' in 19 subdivisions and 'excess' in three. Four subdivisions received normal rains during the week.

 

Since Mar. 1, India has received 74.7 millimetres of rainfall, 8% below the normal of 81.0 millimetres for the period. End
