NEW DELHI – The Indian Air Force will carry out air exercise along the Pakistan border on Wednesday and Thursday, a source from the air force said. India issued Notice to Airmen for large air exercise along the southern section of its border with Pakistan, mostly in Rajasthan, the source said.
A Notice to Airmen is a formal communication from aviation authorities to pilots and other aviation personnel, including those from commercial operations, and serves as a crucial safety alert. It carries important information about potential hazards, changes, or critical details that could impact the safety or operation of a flight.
The air force exercise will commence at 2100 IST on Wednesday, the source said. According to the news agency ANI, all frontline aircraft including the Rafale, Mirage 2000, and Sukhoi-30s will participate in the exercise.
The development comes amid escalating tensions with Pakistan following the Apr. 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 26 civilians were killed. While there is no official statement on the matter, the military exercise is seen as India's preparedness in the backdrop of strained India-Pakistan ties.
Ever since the Pahalgam attack, the Pakistan troops constantly violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. According to Indian Army, the Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing for 12th consecutive night late Monday. India has accused Pakistan for the terrorist attack and taken several action against Islamabad, including suspension of Indus Waters Treaty and trade.
Amid the rising concerns, the Ministry of Home Affairs decided to conduct civil defence mock drills across 244 categorised civil defence districts on Wednesday to check preparedness for potential hostile attacks. The mock drill will include air raid warning sirens, training of civilians and students on self-protection during an attack, implementation of crash blackout measures to reduce visibility, early-stage camouflage of vital installations, and rehearsals for evacuation plans in the event of a hostile attack.
