NEW DELHI – The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Saturday approved the termination of Krishnamurthy Subramanian's term as the executive director (India) of the International Monetary Fund six months ahead of schedule on the grounds of "diplomatic issues", a senior finance ministry official said. A few "differences in opinion" between IMF and Subhramanian led to a tussle, the official told Informist.
Subramanian, who was earlier the chief economic adviser to the Indian government, was nominated as IMF's executive director by the government in August 2022 for a three-year term beginning November 2022.
Currently, IMF's website marks the position of executive director for India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka as "vacant". End
