MUMBAI – India's coal production rose to 14.01 million tonnes in April from 10.87 million tonnes in the same month last year, up nearly 29%, the coal ministry said in a release Friday. Coal dispatches in April were at 16.81 million tonnes, up from 14.54 million tonnes in April 2024.
The ministry attributed the rise in output and dispatches to the commencement of operations of newly developed coal blocks during the month. The Kotre Basantpur Pachmo block of Central Coalfields Ltd. started operations on Apr. 15 and the Naini coal block of Singareni Collieries Co. Ltd. started operations on Apr. 16, the release said.
