M&M April sport utility vehicle despatches grow 28% YoY, exports up 82%

MUMBAI – Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. on Thursday said it sold 84,170 units to dealerships in April, registering an on-year growth of 19%. The Thar-maker's sport utility vehicle despatches in India grew 28% to 52,330 units. Exports by M&M grew a whopping 82% to 3,381 units in April, aided by a low base.
Its passenger vehicle portfolio solely consists of sport utility vehicles, including a compact variant. Including exports, total passenger vehicle sales stood at 54,860 units.
The company sold 22,989 commercial vehicles in April, higher than 22,102 units sold a year ago. Sales of light commercial vehicles with of less-than-2 tonnes fell 21% on year to 2,652 units while despatches of units higher than 2 tonnes but lower than 3.5 tonnes grew 9% to 19,141 units. Light commercial vehicles of over 3.5 tonnes and medium-heavy commercial vehicles saw despatches increasing 10% on year to 1,196 units in April. Sales of three-wheelers were marginally down at 5,470 from 5,504 units a year ago.
M&M's farm equipment sector saw domestic sales of 38,516 tractors, up 8% on year. The company exported 1,538 tractors in April, up 25% on year. Overall, the company sold 40,054 tractors to start the new financial year, registering an on-year growth of 8%.
"The harvest season is progressing very well and is expected to conclude shortly. Bolstered by the Chaitra Navratri festival in the first week of April, retail momentum is very strong," said Hemant Sikka, president of M&M's farm equipment sector. "This is well supported by good crop prices and high procurement at Mandis, leading to good cash flows with farmers," Sikka said.
The weather department has predicted above normal southwest monsoon for India in 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), which the company said is hugely positive for the overall agri-economy and the tractor industry.
The company had reported a net profit of INR 29.64 billion for Dec. quarter on the revenue of INR 224.10 billion. M&M automotive's shares on Wednesday closed at INR 2,928.80 on the National Stock Exchange up 0.6%. End
