NEW DELHI - India's goods and services tax collections grew 12.6% on year to INR 2.367 trillion in April, data released by the government Thursday showed. Sequentially, GST collections were up 20.7% from March. At INR 2.367 trillion, GST collections in April were the highest since the introduction of the indirect tax in 2017.
Quoting finance ministry officials, Informist had reported on Apr. 21 that GST collection may set a new record in April, with revenue seen in the range of INR 2.30 trillion to INR 2.40 trillion on the back of upbeat economic activity.
Of the total collections in April, Central GST accounted for INR 486.34 billion, State GST INR 593.72 billion, Integrated GST accounted for INR 1.153 trillion, and INR 134.51 billion was from compensation cess. GST revenue, net of refunds, was INR 2.094 trillion in April, up 9.1% on year.
Gross domestic GST revenue rose 10.7% on year to INR 1.898 trillion in April, while the import revenue rose to INR 469.13 billion from INR 388.35 billion a year ago, up 20.8%. Refunds during the month rose 48.3% on year to INR 273.41 billion. End
