Tata Motors India despatches fail to grow YoY for 4th straight month in Apr

NEW DELHI - Automobile despatches by Tata Motors Ltd. to Indian dealerships failed to register a year-on-year growth for the fourth consecutive month in April, as both passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle segments contracted, according to the company's exchange filing Thursday. Exports emerged as the silver lining for the company as combined exports of its commercial vehicle and passenger vehicle segments were 1,790 units in April, up 60% on year.

 

Tata Motors sold 72,753 units to dealers in April, 6% lower year-on-year. The company has not registered a sales growth exceeding 1% since June last year. In India, the company despatched 70,963 units to dealers, registering a fall of 7%. In FY25, the company's domestic despatches in a month exceeded the 3% mark only once, in April.

 

Passenger vehicles contributed roughly 62% to Tata Motors' overall sales volume in April. The company sold 45,532 passenger vehicles in April, including electric vehicles, 5% lower on year. Sales of this segment in India fell nearly 6% to 45,199 units, while exports grew to 333 units, up three-fold on year. The company sold 5,318 electric vehicles in India and abroad in April, down 16% on year.

 

Commercial vehicle despatches contracted 8% on year to 27,221 units. Within this, sales to dealers in India fell 10% on year to 25,764 units while exports grew 43% to 1,457 units. 

 

Sales of small commercial vehicles used for cargo and pickup, which form around 36% of its India commercial vehicle segment, tumbled 23% on year to 9,131 units. Heavy commercial truck despatches declined 8% on year to 7,270 units. Intermediate light commercial vehicles' despatches grew 8% to 4,680 units while despatches of passenger carriers increased 4% to 4,683 units.

 

In India, despatches of the company's medium and heavy intermediate commercial vehicles in April fell slightly on year to 12,093 units. Despatches of this segment, including exports, fell to 12,760 units in April, down 3.4% on year. 

 

For the quarter ended December, the company reported a consolidated net profit of INR 54.51 billion on revenue of INR 1.136 trillion. Wednesday, its shares ended 3.2% lower from previous close at INR 644.25 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
