Select Committee on tax bill to meet stakeholders in Bengaluru, Mumbai

NEW DELHI – The Select Committee of Lok Sabha, constituted to examine the Income Tax Bill, 2025, will visit Bengaluru and Mumbai to hold discussions with various stakeholders. The committee members will visit Bengaluru from May 13-15 and will be in Mumbai on May 16–17.
The Bill, which aims to simplify the Income Tax Act, 1961, was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Feb. 13 and referred to the Select Committee of Lok Sabha for wider scrutiny. The bill was announced in the full Budget for 2024-25 (Apr-Mar) with an objective to make it more lucid and easier for taxpayers to calculate taxes and file returns.
According to the committee's schedule, the members will hold discussion with representatives of the National Association of Software and Service Companies, Bangalore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Singhvi Dev & Unni LLP, NNMS Law Chambers, H.C. Khincha & Co., Shreya Rao & Associates, and Driti Advisors in Bengaluru on May 13. The next day, the committee members will meet the representatives of the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Karnataka State Chartered Accountants Association and independent income tax professionals and practitioners. The members will also pay a visit to Income Tax Department's centralised processing centre.
On May 15, committee will hold discussions with representatives of Income Tax Department Bengaluru zone and after that will depart for Mumbai.
In Mumbai, the committee will meet representatives of the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bombay Chartered Accountants Society, TP Otswal, C.N.K. & associates LLP, and independent income tax professionals and practitioners on May 16. The next day committee will hold discussions with the officials of Income Tax Department, Mumbai Zone.
The select committee is scheduled to submit a report by the first day of the Monsoon Session this year. End
