Rainfall to bring down temperatures in northwest India, says IMD

NEW DELHI – The India Meteorological Department has predicted scattered rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning, and strong winds over northwest India, in areas such as Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan from Wednesday, and these are likely to last till Sunday.
According to a statement released by the weather bureau, while there would be no significant change in maximum temperatures in these areas during the next two days, it expects tempratures to fall by 2-4 degrees celsius in the subsequent five days.
Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm is also likely over Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, along with Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from Thursday to Monday, it said.
Regions including Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh are likely to see light to scattered rainfall till Saturday, the bureau said. Light to moderate rainfall is also expected over Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Kerala and Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal during the next seven days, it said.
Meanwhile Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive heavy rainfall till Thursday, it said.
Some regions such as Gujarat and Saurashtra will see severe heatwave conditions in isolated pockets till Wednesday. Heatwave conditions are also likely to prevail over parts of West Rajasthan till Thursday. Pockets of Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, and east Rajasthan are also likely to see heatwaves till Thursday. End
