IMD sees heatwave in northwest India till Tue, heavy rains in northeast

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast heatwave conditions to prevail over parts of the plains of northwest India till Tuesday. Places such as Rajasthan and Punjab will face heatwave conditions till Thursday, and Haryana and Madhya Pradesh will see the same till Tuesday. The weather bureau has also forecast similar weather conditions over Vidarbha, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Odisha till Saturday.

 

Warm night conditions are likely in parts of Rajasthan from Saturday to Tuesday and in Odisha on Friday, the department said. The agency has issued a red alert for wave in most parts of the country.

 

Hot and humid weather is likely to prevail over coastal Karnataka, central Maharashtra, Marathawada on Friday, over Bihar, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe till Saturday, and over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema till Sunday, the bureau said.

 

Heavy rainfall is likely over the northeastern states till Sunday, with extremely heavy rainfall over parts of Meghalaya on Friday, IMD said. A fresh spell of rainfall, accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds, is seen over east and adjoining central India till Tuesday.

 

The bureau also sees hailstorms over the interior parts of Karnataka till Saturday, over Chhattisgarh during Saturday to Monday, Vidarbha on Sunday, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim on Saturday, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha on Sunday and Monday.  End
