RBI delays timeline for standardised note-sorting machines by 6 mos to Nov 1

NEW DELHI – The Reserve Bank of India on Thursday said it was extending the timeline for banks to ensure their note-sorting machines all complied with the standards laid down by the Bureau of Indian Standards by six months to Nov. 1. Banks had made representations to the regulator citing implementation challenges, the RBI said in a notification.
The Bureau of Indian Standards had published a standard for note-sorting machines in March 2024 after due consultation with the RBI. The central bank had on Oct. 31 said that banks should by May 1 deploy only those note-sorting machines that comply with the standards. End
