Heatwave likely to continue in east, central India till Sat, says IMD

--IMD sees heatwave in east, central India till Sat, in northwest till Tue 

--IMD sees heavy to very heavy rainfall continuing over northeast till Sun 

 

MUMBAI - The India Meteorological Department said heatwave is likely to continue in east and central India till Saturday, and the plains of northwest India till Tuesday. The weather bureau also said a fresh spell of rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning is expected over east and adjoining central India from Saturday.  

 

Heatwave conditions are likely over pockets of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Punjab, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, central Madhya Pradesh, and Matharwada till this month-end. IMD also predicted warm night conditions in pockets of Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, and Telangana Thursday. During the week, hot and humid weather is likely to prevail over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, and Gujarat. 

 

The weather bureau said there is an upper air cyclonic circulation over north Bangladesh and another over north-east Assam in lower tropospheric levels. This weather disturbance is likely to cause very heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya till the weekend. Heavy rain is also expected over parts of Sikkim on Saturday and Sunday.   

 

IMD also said isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds with speed reaching 30-40 km per hour gusting to 50 km per hour are likely over Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal during the next seven days. Similar weather conditions are also seen over east India and east Uttar Pradesh during Saturday and Tuesday. Also, a thundersquall, when the wind speed reaches 50-60 km per hour, is likely over Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, east Madhya Pradesh, and south interior Karnataka till the weekend.

 

Meanwhile, a fresh western disturbance is likely to cause isolated to scattered light rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning over the western Himalayan region till Saturday.

 

A gradual rise in maximum temperatures by two-three degrees Celsius is likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan during the next 6 days. A similar rise in maximum temperatures is seen over Uttar Pradesh during the next three days and a fall by 2-3°C for the subsequent four days. The weather bureau does not see any significant change in maximum temperatures over the remaining parts of the country.  End
