India got 25% above normal rain at 12.3 mm in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 12.3 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 25% above the normal of 9.9 millimetres for the week, the India Meteorological Department said. Two homogeneous regions of the country got lower than normal showers, while one region got above normal rains, and one region received normal rains during the week, the weather bureau said.
Northwest India saw 115% above-normal rainfall during the week at 15.5 millimetres. Rainfall in south peninsular India was steady during the week at 9.3 millimetres. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 1% below normal during the week at 31.1 millimetres. Central India received 3% below-normal rainfall at 2.4 millimetres during the week, the agency said.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was 'deficient' in five and 'large deficient' in nine during the week. Rainfall was 'excess' in six subdivisions and 'large excess' in seven. Six subdivisions received normal rains, and three subdivisions received no rain at all during the week.
Since Mar. 1, India has received 49.8 millimetres of rainfall, 15% below the normal of 58.7 millimetres for the period. End
