NEW DELHI – The Supreme Court Wednesday condemned the Pahalgam terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir that killed more than two dozen people, mostly tourists. The apex court said that the diabolical act of mindless violence in Pahalgam has shaken the conscience of all and is a stark reminder of the brutality and inhumanity that terrorism unleashes.
The top court unanimously adopted a resolution denouncing the act of terror and observed a two-minute silence to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the incident. "(The) Supreme Court of India pays its respectful tribute to the innocent lives snuffed out brutally and prematurely, while also expressing its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. May the departed souls rest in peace and may those who were injured recover soon," the court said.
The Supreme Court said the nation stands with the victims and their families in this hour of indescribable grief. The attack on tourists, who were merely enjoying the natural beauty of the Crown Jewel of India -- Kashmir, is undoubtedly an affront to the values of humanity and the sanctity of life and the top court strongly condemns it.
Terrorists Tuesday opened fire on people at a prime tourist spot in Pahalgam in south Kashmir, in what can be termed as the deadliest attack on tourists in the Valley in decades. According to media reports, 26 people were killed in the attack and several others suffered grievous injuries. Initial probe indicates that five to six terrorists, including two believed to be "foreign nationals", arrived in camouflage attire before carrying out the terror attack, reports said. End
