NEW DELHI – US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin and other world leaders have condemned the deadly terrorist attack on tourists in Jammu & Kashmir's Pahalgam, and expressed solidarity with India. At least 26 civilians were reportedly killed in the attack on Tuesday.
The US president spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express his condolences for the loss of lives. "President Trump strongly condemned the terror attack and expressed full support to India to bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous attack. India and the United States stand together in the fight against terror," the Ministry of External Affairs posted on X.
Russian President Putin reached out to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi to express condolences and offer support following the terror attack. "This brutal crime has no justification whatsoever. We expect that its organisers and perpetrators will face a deserved punishment," read the message from Putin. "I would like to reiterate our commitment to further increasing cooperation with Indian partners in fighting terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Please convey words of sincere sympathy and support to the near and dear ones of the deceased as well as wishes for a speedy recovery of all injured," he added.
On Tuesday, terrorists opened fire at a tourist spot near Pahalgam town in Jammu & Kashmir, resulting in the loss of 26 lives, primarily tourists. Following the attack, Prime Minister Modi returned to India early on Wednesday morning, cutting short his two-day visit to Saudi Arabia. He held a meeting with the National Security Adviser Ajit Dhoval, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to discuss the situation in view of the Pahalgam terror attack.
Apart from Trump and Putin, Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also condemned the attack on civilians in Kashmir. "We strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and we wish the injured a speedy recovery. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the people of India," Scholz posted on social media platform X.
