--RBI: Banks must migrate existing domains to '.bank.in' domain by Oct 31

NEW DELHI – The Reserve Bank of India has asked all banks to migrate their existing website domains to '.bank.in' by Oct. 31, the central bank said in a notification on Tuesday.

"All banks are advised to commence the migration of their existing domains to the '.bank.in' domain and complete the process at the earliest and in any case, not later than October 31, 2025," the RBI said.

The RBI had first announced in February that it would introduce an exclusive internet domain for banks called '.bank.in' to reduce cyber-security threats and malicious activities such as phishing, and streamline secure financial services. The RBI also plans to have an exclusive domain of 'fin.in' for other non-bank entities in the financial sector.

"It has now been decided to operationalise the '.bank.in' domain for banks through the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology, which has been authorised by the National Internet Exchange of India, under the aegis of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, to serve as the exclusive registrar for this domain," the RBI said on Tuesday.  End
