NEW DELHI – The government has extended the term of Reserve Bank of India Deputy Governor T. Rabi Sankar for another year, the central bank said on Tuesday. The extension is effective from May 3, when his current term ends.
Sankar, who has been the RBI deputy governor since May 2021, had also received a one-year extension last year after his initial three-year term ended. Sankar currently heads the RBI's departments of currency management, foreign exchange, financial markets operations and regulation, internal debt management and payments and settlement systems.
Before being appointed as deputy governor, Sankar was an executive director at the RBI. He is one of the four current deputy governors at the central bank. Economist Poonam Gupta, who was appointed deputy governor earlier this month for a three-year term, is yet to take office and has not been assigned portfolios. End
