NEW DELHI – Hailing the finalising of terms of reference for trade negotiations, US Vice President J.D. Vance Tuesday asserted that it is a vital step for enhanced trade ties between India and US. "America and India have officially finalised the terms of reference for the trade negotiation. I believe this is a vital step toward realising President Trump's and Prime Minister Modi's vision, because it sets a road map toward a final deal between our nations," Vance said.

Vance is currently in Jaipur, Rajasthan. He is on a four-day visit to India along with his wife Usha Vance and children. He landed in Delhi on Monday and held bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi.

While lauding Trump's reciprocal tariffs as a significant step towards rebalancing global trade, Vance said the president is looking forward to stronger ties with India and that the future of 21st century is going to be determined by the India-US partnership. "I believe that if India and the US work together successfully, we are going to see a prosperous and peaceful 21st century," Vance said.

The US vice president also underlined the need for energy ties between the two countries. He asserted that the US' decision to produce oil and natural gas will benefit India. "The US has huge natural resources and we want to sell it to our friends like India but at much lower cost. We also want India to explore its own natural resources including its offshore natural gas reserves and critical minerals supplies. We have the capacity and we have the desire to help. We think energy co-production will help beat unfair competitors in other foreign markets," Vance said.

"We believe that American energy can help realize India's nuclear power production goals, as well as its artificial intelligence ambitions, because, as the United States knows well, and I know that India knows well, there is no AI future without energy security and energy dominance," Vance said.

He asserted that India and US can work together to innovate cutting-edge technology which will benefit both the countries in the coming years. He also pushed for stronger defence ties between the countries. US and India have much to gain by investing in each other, Vance said.

Vance visited Jaipur's Amer Fort, a UNESCO world heritage site, with his wife and children, before addressing the gathering in the pink city on Tuesday. He will visit Taj Mahal in Agra on Wednesday and will depart for Washington, D.C. on Thursday.  End
